What is a soul warrior?

Dec 05, 2024

We all have an idea of what a trauma survivor is. Someone who has been through enormous challenges, significant stress, childhood abuse and neglect. A person beaten down but still going somehow. Wounded, even broken, yet they have dragged themselves through to now.

A soul warrior is my term for the survivor who has healed enough to recognise their strengths, their courage and their worth. They have hit the invisible ceiling of standard psychology which only sees them as a human who went through experiences that are judged as wrong and bad. They have opened the lid to the spiritual dimension, where all that suffering can start to make sense. Where healing can be completed.

The soul warrior has healed enough to recognise the extraordinary gifts which have come out of the challenges, not despite them. They have some soul-level awareness that there are reasons for the terrible events they went through, such as growth, learning and evolution. Karma. Service. They know they are so much more than their trauma, which no longer dominates or defines them.

At the spiritual level, we can start to understand why a soul might plan for such awful difficulties in the lifetime. Instead of being wrong happenings in a random, cruel world, the traumatic stresses are known to be catalysts for soul maturity. There are gifts of trauma which can only come from such adversity, such as courage, compassion and wisdom. Patience, resilience and empathy. Kindness, strength and unconditional love.

When we know the greater reasons for what we have endured, we can begin to let go of the final remnants of fear, guilt and resentment. When we uncover the qualities and virtues we have acquired because of the trauma, we can feel grateful for the catalysts for our growth. Like sand in an oyster, the challenges have created the pearls we get to keep forever.

As a soul warrior, you will have battle scars from what you endured, but the memories are washed clean of any trapped emotions. The symptoms have dried up, no longer dominating your life. The pain has been flipped into power, which you now share with others.

When we move into service, expressing what was gained through trauma out into the world, we know we have come full circle. But at a higher level than when we started. The warrior has grown and now shares their growth to make the world a better place.
