Finding Freedom
Jun 09, 2024“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.”
Charlotte Brontë
In our life on earth, we hope for freedom in many forms. Freedom of choice, speech, movement, finances, spiritual practice, and so on, all reflecting our sovereign worth and right to free will. People living in freedom are allowed to pursue their happiness without tyranny or control. Only the moral boundaries of love and goodness apply.
Internally, the freedom we carve out through psychotherapy allows us to think, feel and be ourselves, independent of the negative impacts of past fear and trauma. Facing, transmuting, releasing our wounding patterns, gives us increasing space to know who we really are, what we truly desire and the confidence to achieve it.
I name this growing inner freedom to clients as a 'greater range of movement’. With our inner work, we somehow start to feel more spacious inside.
The full expression of our inner freedom is knowing the spiritual quality of infinite freedom we were created to enjoy. Freedom is a divine attribute we are all freely gifted. We want it and seek it because it is an aspect of who we really are.
