Your soul quality of empathy
Nov 17, 2024In this article we continue exploring the gifts you made out of your trauma.
Soul Warrior: Someone who has transformed their trauma into powerful qualities making themselves, others and the world a better place.
The Quality of Empathy
“If we can share our story with someone who responds with empathy and understanding, shame can't survive.”
Brené Brown
Challenging times give us a personal knowing of difficult experiences. We develop a sensitive understanding of what it is like to ‘walk a mile in those shoes’.
We can be moved on a deep feeling level by other’s suffering, because we don’t have to imagine what it was like. We know.
This empathic understanding can then be transferred to other people’s experiences; we may not have gone through the exact form of another’s trauma but we know the essence of it, so can connect with them in compassionate ways.
Once again, deep growth has been forged in the flames of traumatic stress and has become part of our soul personality forever. While the ordeals eventually end, and the residue takes time to heal out, the gifts remain yours for eternity.
Exercise
- Do you recognise your empathy?
- Beneath any unresolved wounding and trauma symptoms, can you see and appreciate your compassion for others?
- How do you notice your empathy showing up in your life?
Acknowledge your warrior compassion, claim it, be proud of it and know that you can use it with love whenever you need.
“It is an absolute human certainty that no one can know his own beauty or perceive a sense of his own worth until it has been reflected back to him in the mirror of another loving, caring human being.”
John Joseph Powell
