Courage comes from facing fear
Nov 10, 2024The Quality of Courage
“Being brave isn’t the absence of fear. Being brave is having that fear but finding a way through it.”
Bear Grylls
Last article, we looked at strength as a gift of trauma, a quality that grows through the adversity as you deal with another day of challenge. Another quality that has developed within you, not despite the awful experiences but because of them, is courage. Trauma-level stress, especially in childhood, generates massive fear. To continue life in the face of such fear, terror and overwhelm is a daily test of bravery.
By surviving the difficulties of your history, you have grown your soul warrior bravery. Remember, courage is not the absence of fear, it is doing something despite the fear. Like getting out of bed to face the same dysfunctional family day after day. Finding your way through the minefield of your childhood is where you developed the profound courage you now have at soul level forever.
Exercise
- Do you recognise your courage?
- Beneath any unresolved wounding and trauma symptoms, can you see and appreciate your courage and bravery?
- How do you notice your courage showing up in your life?
Acknowledge this warrior power, claim it, be proud of it and know that you can use it with love whenever you need.
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
Nelson Mandela
