A grandfather is talking with his grandson and he says there are two wolves inside of us, which are always at war with each other. One of them is a good wolf, which represents things like kindness, bravery and love. The other is a bad wolf, which represents things like greed, hatred and fear.

The grandson stops and thinks about it for a second, then he looks up at his grandfather and says, “Grandfather, which one wins?” The grandfather quietly replies, “the one you feed.”

This famous story makes clear a very simple but powerful truth: the quality of our life is the result of our choices. Our mind is constantly creative, turning the thoughts we ‘feed’ into our lived reality. The life of freedom and joy that flows from love, or the constricted and painful life of fear, is a choice we make every day whether we realise it or not.

Whenever we are upset in any way – angry, worrying, sad, despairing – we can use the tools provided by Awaken Therapy and other healing approaches, to trace our emotions back to the thinking behind them. Rather than being the victim of ‘a cruel world out to get us’, we always find our own mental attitude is generating our feeling state. Life is hard enough at times: we don’t need to ‘suffer twice’ with the additional pain that fear-based thinking causes.

A Course in Miracles (Chapter 7, section 7) explains that the fundamental law of our mind is to create, a process that we are doing constantly. In the binary system of our human experience, we are either extending love or projecting fear; sharing the loving truth of our being, or attempting to get rid of something we don’t want. Through this law, we “therefore produce abundance or scarcity, depending on how (we) choose to apply it” (p.286).

Awaken Therapy was developed to assist you in knowing what is in your heart and mind; with conscious awareness, you then have choice around which wolf you channel your energy towards. While this requires us to own full responsibility for our lives – and drop whatever blame-games we might be playing – this is what makes the difference between a hellish or a heavenly life. With accountability, courage and awareness, we make sure our loving wolf wins.
